Fàilte! Over the past 17 years and across Scotland, around 350 women and men have been trained by Capacitar's founder, Dr Pat Cane and local Trainers. Many of us regularly use the practices learned for our own personal well-being and spiritual nourishment. But in the spirit of 'healing ourselves - healing our world' many of us also offer well-being sessions or workshops in our local communities: in schools for children with special needs; in hospitals with nurses; in universities with staff and students; with survivors of domestic abuse; with refugees and people seeking asylum; with people living with mental health challenges; in hospices and with people living with cancer and other life-threatening diseases; with midwives and pregnant mums; with carers; in spiritual direction and on spiritual retreats. You can see the range of in-person and online sessions that we offer below. You are welcome to join any of them! We send out a regular newsletter (sign up if you would like to receive it) which provides information of local sessions, taster days and training. And to get a sense of what the practices are and how they might benefit you, Capacitar International has a dedicated YouTube Channel with Pat Cane (and others) demonstrating many of the practices. During Covid, QNIS and Capacitar nurtured a collaborative relationship that led to 40 Community Nurses receiving the 4-module Trauma Healing and Transformation Training. Among them have been Nurse Educators, Care Home Managers, Health Visitors, District Nurses, Prison Nurses, Community Mental Health Nurses, and Nurses who hold executive positions in the community. QNIS also has a YouTube Channel with several of their Capacitar-trained Community Nurses demonstrating how, even with just 5 minutes in between clients, you can balance your energy or manage your emotions. But perhaps most importantly for Health and Social Care professionals in the UK is that Capacitar International, QNIS and Capacitar Scotland collaborated to provide a new Capacitar manual that will support this sector in the UK in a way that is accessible and sensitive to their specific needs. "Holistic Tools for Heath & Social Care Professionals: Healing Practices for Ourselves, Our Teams & Our Communities" is another invaluable tool for promoting wellness in the Health and Social Care Sector in the same way that the other Capacitar manuals have provided support and empowerment for Refugees, Climate Activists, Children and Families, People living with Cancer and their Carers, etc. Click here if you are interested in obtaining a copy. Members of Capacitar Scotland have also nurtured a relationship with the University of Edinburgh over the past decade. Regular weekly wellbeing sessions using Capacitar practices began 15 years ago with University Chaplain and Capacitar Trainer, Ali Newell. She offered these sessions at the Chaplaincy of the University until she retired; Vet School lecturer, Dr Glen Cousquer took over and continues to provide them, weekly, to students and staff. This year, Glen, Lecturer and MSc Programme Coordinator at the Vet School included the new manual (pictured above) as Essential Reading to the dissertation courses on both the MSc in One Health and MVetSci in Conservation Medicine, as well as the DVetMed programme at the Vet School. Glen did the Capacitar training in 2019/20, and tells his story in this inspirational article "My Journey with Capacitar Trauma Healing" He has also been responsible for acquiring sponsorship from the University for students and members of staff of the Vet School to do the Capacitar training with the intention they will take the learning back into their work and teaching.
