capacitar in scotland
equipping - connecting - supporting
Fàilte! Over the past 15 years, nearly 250 people across Scotland have done the training with founder Dr Pat Cane or local Trainers. We use this training regularly for our own personal well-being and spiritual nourishment. But in the spirit of 'healing ourselves - healing our world' many of us also offer well-being sessions or workshops in our local communities: in special schools for children with autism; with survivors of domestic abuse and rape; with refugees and people seeking asylum; with people living with mental health problems; in hospices and with people living with cancer and other life-threatening diseases; with midwives and pregnant mums; with carers; with adults with severe learning difficulties; in spiritual direction and on spiritual retreats; and in universities. We send out a regular newsletter (sign up if you would like to receive it) which provides information of local sessions, taster days and training. Capacitar International has a dedicated YouTube Channel with Pat Cane (and others) demonstrating many of the practices. QNIS and Capacitar have been nurturing an ever-strengthening relationship that, over the past 3 years, has seen 40 nurses involved in the THT Training. Among them have been Nurse Educators, Care Home Managers, Health Visitors, District Nurses, Prison Nurses, Community Mental Health Nurses, and Nurses who hold Executive positions in the community. We worked together to source funding for the nurses which included the Royal College of Nurses “COVID-19 Health Care Support Appeal” and the Scottish Government’s “Workforce Wellbeing Fund for Adult Social Work and Social Care”
In order to continue to support the nurses who have done the training, QNIS has developed a Community of Practice to help nurses keep connected and share experiences of using Capacitar practices, as well as providing a safe space for peer support. QNIS has highlighted the need to engage with and raise awareness about the importance of Self Care and Wellbeing. They now have a section of their website dedicated to resourcing their membership in Wellbeing, including several videos of Queen’s Nurses demonstrating the Capacitar practices they have learned (see the images below). But perhaps most importantly for Health and Social Care professionals in the UK is that Capacitar International and QNIS/Capacitar Scotland have been working together to provide a new Capacitar manual that will support this sector in the UK in a way that is accessible and sensitive to their specific needs. This will be another invaluable tool for promoting wellness in the Health and Social Care Sector in the same way that the other Capacitar manuals have provided support and empowerment for Refugees, Climate Activists, Children and Families, People living with Cancer and their Carers, etc. In 2021, a Wellbeing Resource Booklet for Nurses and Midwives was put together and is downloadable here. Also during the lockdown for Covid-19 QNIS put together this most inspirational Leadership Dance, including Queens Nurses across the Lowlands, Highlands and Island of Scotland... you cannot help smiling at the highland cows joining in! |
